RHODE ISLAND ASSOCIATION FOR BEHAVIOR ANALYSIS AT A GLANCE
A Bit of Background
Since 1974, the Association for Behavior Analysis International (ABAI) has been the primary membership organization for those interested in the philosophy, science, application, and teaching of behavior analysis. Affiliated chapters (RIABA) are membership organizations associated with ABAI through their interest in the dissemination and growth of behavior analysis.
POSITION STATEMENT
June 8th, 2020
Rhode Island Association for Behavior Analysis (RIABA) joins in support with other organizations and individuals calling for action to end racism and police brutality against black individuals. The reality of systemic racism that perpetuates continuous unjustifiable actions against black individuals must stop. RIABA is committed to supporting diversity, equity and inclusion in our local community.
RIABA is committing to support the The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Providence Branch in Rhode Island with a monetary donation to continue to fulfill its mission to eliminate racism. The NAACP is a:
“non-profit organization established with the objective of ensuring the political, educational, social, and economic equality of minority groups. The NAACP has as its mission the goal of eliminating race prejudice and removing all barriers of racial discrimination through advocacy, the electoral process, lobbying, litigation, organization, and protest” (http://naacpprov.org).
When considering the ways that we can support, donating to a local organization that is well established was a significant determinant in making our decision. Not only will this donation help the NAACP (Providence Branch) fulfill its mission, but the investment will benefit our local community. Although a donation is a small gesture, we hope it helps with whatever the organization may need.
RIABA is also committed to informing its members of relevant legislation that can help in the efforts to eliminate racial prejudice. We are one, small, but strong community and it is our duty to promote justice, equity and inclusion for our clients, colleagues, family members and friends.
